Audrey Jaffa

Audrey Jaffa, former resident of Sleepy Hollow Gardens and Transfiguration Parish in Tarrytown died on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Worcester, Pennsylvania.

Audrey was born on February 7, 1924 in Manhattan, New York, to Eugene and Margaret DuBuc. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle, summa cum laude, and received a master's degree in foreign languages from NYU. Early in her career, Audrey worked as an interpreter at the United Nations.

In 1952, Audrey married Ira Jaffa and started a family. Mrs. Jaffa began teaching in the late 1960s. She taught French at St. Raymond High School for Boys in the Bronx and the School of the Holy Child in Rye, New York. She became President of the New York Archdiocesan Modern Language Council and was elected to the Board of Directors for the New York State Association for Foreign Language Teachers. In 1981, Audrey received the award for the most outstanding foreign language program in New York State.

Mrs. Jaffa spent much of her retirement living in Worcester, PA with her daughter, Laura and son-in-law, Dan, and their family. Upon retirement, Audrey became an accomplished painter and sang in the choir at Transfiguration in Tarrytown and Visitation BVM in Trooper, Pennsylvania. Her paintings were displayed in multiple exhibits in Westchester County, New York, and Pennsylvania. Many of her paintings won awards. Mrs. Jaffa also co-wrote and sang on a children's album entitled "Salut! Nous Allons Chanter."

Mrs. Jaffa is predeceased by her husband, Ira, and her son, Eugene Jaffa. She is survived by her daughter, Laura, and son-in-law, Dan Dreher; son, Robert, and daughter-in-law, Maria Jaffa; son, Douglas Jaffa, and daughter-in-law, Gail; as well as six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Chapel at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave, Hawthorne, NY 10532 on Tuesday, September 17th at 11:00 AM.
