Arthur W. (Tootie) Ortiz 86, a lifelong resident of Hawthorne, N.Y. passed away suddenly, but peacefully at home on February 14, 2013. He was born in Hawthorne, N.Y. on January 26, 1927. The son of Felix and Mae T. (nee McCusker) Ortiz. He attended Hawthorne Public School and Pleasantville High School. He proudly served in WWII in the Marine Corps., after waiting to be old enough to join. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he started in business with his brother, Philip J., operating in Hawthorne as Ortiz Brothers and later formed his own welding and manufacturing company operating as a sole proprietorship. His excellent reputation was known throughout Westchester and New York City. On December 31, 1955, he married June M. Keppler, his devoted wife of 57 years. He retired in 1990 and the business was taken over by his son, Mark. After retiring, he and June traveled throughout the US, Canada and Mexico in their motorhome "SNOWMAD", his pride and joy and all-time hobby. He is survived by his wife, June, his children, son Mark and wife Michelle of Hawthorne, N.Y. his daughter, Lori-Ann Stroili and husband John of Newtown, CT and his son, John Arthur and wife Lauren of Corvallis, OR, along with "the light of his life" his seven grandchildren; Matthew, Markie Ann, John Philip, Erin, Taylor-Ann, Heather and Tyler. He is also survived by his niece and nephew Judy Ortiz of Yorktown, N.Y. and Barry Ortiz of Hopewell Junction, N.Y. He was predeceased by his mother and father, his brother Philip J. and step-brother Gordon Fischer, step-sisters Lucille Fischer Orico, Laura Fischer Robinson and Edna Fischer Brown. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home, on Sunday (today) 4-8 PM. with eulogies at 7:30 PM. and where religious services will be held on Monday at 10 AM. Interment Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y. with full military honors.
