Antonio De Jesus Marquez, 69, died Thursday, November 5, 2010 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut overcome by liver cancer. He leaves his four children, Anthony, Ruth, Daniel, and Carmen Lydia; and nine grandchildren. Born and raised in Santurce, Puerto Rico, the son of Evangelio de Jesus and Carmen Marquez, Antonio De Jesus is the oldest of eight children. He grew up in Santurce, and then later moved to New York City, where he finished his schooling and became a computer operator. He later retired in Humacao, Puerto Rico until he became ill. His children then brought him to Hartford, CT to be with the family. In his early years, Mr. Antonio De Jesus had a troubled and difficult childhood. Life was full of temptations and hardship throughout his teenage years. At the age of twenty-five, Antonio was saved by the Lord. He met his wife, Maria, and married on April 27, 1968. Maria and Antonio had their four children, Anthony the oldest, Daniel and Ruth the twins, and Carmen Lydia the youngest. He was very proud of all his children. In Antonio's autobiography, he states that:
"As the years went by, my children got married and my wife of 27 years passed. I became weak in my spiritual life and lost sight of the Lord. I compared myself to Peter when he took his eyes off the Lord and sank. I, once again, was tempted and fell back to my old sinful ways. Now, at an advanced age, the Lord has had mercy on me and given me another opportunity. As in Job 42:5, I had heard of You, by the hearing of the year, but now my eye has seen You. The Lord rescued me once again. This is why I found myself studying the words of God, to be a better Christian, to live an acceptable life before Him, to make His will, to be prepared for His coming, and to live with Him for eternality, when I leave this world."
Antonio De Jesus died peacefully with his children by his side.
