Anthony Joseph Varnit of White Plains, NY passed away on Friday, Feb 23, 2024, at the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. He was born on December 16, 1935, in Scranton, PA and is predeceased by his mother Beatrice Healy-Varnit and son Joseph A. Varnit.
Anthony very proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1962, specializing as an electronics and communications technician, which he continued throughout his professional career as a sole proprietor. Anyone who knew him would always find him tinkering with new unusual gadgets, and he could always be relied upon to have that unique tool to fix almost anything. He enjoyed dancing and was an avid boating enthusiast who loved to fish on his boat named the "Pappa Joe", which he was also affectionately called by family.
He was a member and former Captain of the Eastside Engine Co. #3 White Plains Volunteer Fire Department, former president and member of the North Broadway Citizens Association, parishioner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church in White Plains and former member of the Sons of Italy, Antonio Meucci Lodge.
Anthony is survived by his wife Michelle Grieco-Varnit, sons Garry and Michael, daughters Deborah Milazzo (Paul) and Beatrice, grandchildren Ashli, Robert, Anthony, Parker, Payton and Leila, great grandchildren Lexi and Everett, and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass with Military Honors will be held 10:00 AM on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 92 S Lexington Ave, White Plains, NY 10606.
