Boyd, Annie B., 85, Union Administrator

Annie B. Boyd died on Saturday in Bennington, Vermont after a brief illness while on vacation with her family. She was 85 years old.

Annie Boyle Frew was born in 1925 in Shotts, Scotland. In 1946, she married James B. Boyd and they immigrated to America in 1950, living in White Plains with her family until she moved to Kendall Park, NJ two years ago. After becoming a widow in 1965, she started her lifelong career at Macy's, starting as a sales clerk, and becoming active in the department store workers union, Local 1-S of the RWDSU. She was a powerful and highly-reputed advocate for the workers, and the store management knew well that she was a force to be reckoned with. At the age at which many people consider retiring, she was asked to take a post as Administrator of the union, a position she readily accepted. From there, she was elected Vice President, ultimately retiring at age 72.

While Annie was known for her tough, fighting spirit, she had a huge, loving heart. While she was as frugal as a Scotswoman could be with regards to her personal needs, she was incredibly generous and giving to her family and friends.

In addition to Union membership, she was a lifelong member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of White Plains. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and good Scottish sing-songs.

Annie is survived by her sons James and Ian, both of Kendall Park, NJ, a brother, John, of Fort Lauderdale, FL her grandchildren James and Cameron of Union City, NJ, Ian of Burlington, VT and Brittany of Brooklyn, NY and several nieces and nephews.
