Anneliese (Ann) Witherspoon
December 13, 1922 - May 8, 2018 Resident of Fishers
Anneliese "Ann" Witherspoon, 95, passed away peacefully in Indianapolis on May 8th after a battle with Alzheimer‘s disease. Born on December 13, 1922, in Cologne, Germany, to Hubert and Luise Dreschmann, Ann grew up in an area of Cologne known as Hohenlind and attended the Krieler School in Cologne-Lindenthal.
After WWII, she moved to Munich where she met her future husband, Richard, who was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army. In 1954, they moved to New York City. There, she raised their three children, Elena, Richard and James. This was an enormous achievement for her in her new homeland. Following the birth of her first grand-daughter, Leann, in 1989, Ann moved to Fishers, Indiana just to be closer to her newborn grandchild. Her son, Richard Jr, had just relocated to Indy with a new job assignment. She lived in Fishers until her passing.
Throughout her life, Ann worked diligently to support her family and treasured her grandchildren, enjoying traveling and site-seeing with friends. Friends, family and colleagues enjoyed Ann's work ethic, love of family as well as her discipline.
Ann is survived by her children, daughter Elena Young of Indianapolis, In, sons Richard Witherspoon of Morgan Hill, Ca. and James Witherspoon of Fishers, In, grand-daughters Leann Sobrato and Laura Witherspoon of San Jose, Ca. and an extended family across the country that will miss her guidance, wisdom and humor. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard.
Ann's family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Golden Living Residence in Indianapolis. Their care of our mom during the last year has been outstanding and is very much appreciated.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road in the hamlet of Hartsdale, Westchester County, New York, at 10:00am Thursday, May 17, 2018. All are welcome.
