She was a poor girl from the Bronx who amassed a staggering wealth of family and friends. She was a child of hard times whose soft heart was her greatest strength. She was a small woman who stood tall, because her devotion to her loved ones was nothing short of heroic.
She was Ann Frango -- beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and child of God, who after a long battle with breast cancer slipped from the world in the darkest hour of Oct. 7. Born on September 2, 1933 to Vincent and Christine Fazio, proud immigrants from the impoverished south of Italy, Ann Frango found her calling in the noblest vocation of all: raising a family. Like countless women of her generation, she never advanced her formal education beyond high school. But she was advanced in the wisdom of humility and educated the lives she touched in the virtues of faith, hope, and charity. She and her beloved husband, John Frango, who predeceased her, lived a blessed and prosperous life together in White Plains, NY, where they raised a son and daughter. Ann worked for many years in the accounts receivable department of Pergamon Press in Elmsford, NY. But she never had to work at being a loving and nurturing homemaker, family member, and friend. She excelled at the reassuring kiss, the warm embrace, the encouraging word. These were the pieces of her heart in the rainbow mosaic of love and devotion that was her life.
She was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, where she was an active member of the senior citizens club. Her faith in the face of her illness was unwavering and inspiring. Through her tribulations and triumphs, she always proved to be tough of mind and tender of heart.
Ann Frango is survived by her children Joseph and Deborah, their spouses, her grandchildren Kelly, Jenna, Isabella, and Gianni, two sisters, a host of nieces and nephews -- and a world diminished by her loss. Come celebrate the life and mourn the passing of an exemplary human being. Wake will be held on Monday, October 9 at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains, NY, from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be offered the following morning at 10 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 6 Gedney Circle, White Plains, NY, followed by interment at the Mount Calvary Cemetery on 575 West Hillside Ave. in White Plains.
Have courage for the great sorrows of life, and patience for the small ones. And when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in Peace. God is awake. -- Victor Hugo
