Angelina M. Celona, was born on June 17, 1921, Philadelphia, PA to Rosario and Carmella (nee Ventura) Saglibene. Soon thereafter, the family moved north to Westchester County, NY. They settled in Pleasantville where she attended Pleasantville H.S. and was an honor student until she had to leave school after her sophomore year to help her family through the tough times of the depression years.
She was introduced Peter A Celona through a mutual friend in 1939. After a two year courtship they were married at Holy Innocents Church on November 9, 1941. Peter was drafted in 1942 where he served stateside duty in the army air corps. During the war, she followed Peter to air force bases in Shreveport, LA and Dyersburg, TN with their first son, Salvatore, in tow. After the war, second son Peter was born in 1946. Angelina worked for NY Telephone for the next ten years as a telephone operator to help support her growing family. In 1952 they moved into the house they had just built in Thornwood where their first daughter Francesca was born. She brought her mom and dad great joy as the long sought-after first girl. In 1958, second daughter Tina was born and that completed the Celona family circle. She worked in real estate occasionally but mostly stayed home to care for her beloved family.
Angelina was renowned for her innate cooking skills in which she excelled and inspired other family members to follow in her footsteps. She crocheted and donated countless blankets to the VA and other worthy organizations. She enjoyed her various excursions to the casinos and playing the slots. She was also an avid lotto player looking to hit "the big one" so she could help her family enjoy a better life.
Angelina was predeceased by her husband of over 66 years, Peter, and her son Peter, Jr. in 2008. She is survived by her son Salvatore (Marie), daughters Francesca Downing (Douglas) and Tina Marie Piccoli (Charles II); grandchildren Peter (Karen) and Salvatore V. Celona, Angela Capicotto (Dr. Michael) & Douglas Downing III, Christopher (Lindsay) Celona, and Heather Loftus (David) and Charles Piccoli III, Michael (Hilary) Piccoli and Alexa Piccoli; great-grandchildren Savannah & Hunter Loftus, Izabela, Michael, Michaela and Gabriel Capicotto; Haylie and Mila Piccoli. She loved them all equally and with great passion. Funeral Service, Saturday 10:30 AM at the Hawthorne Funeral Home. Interment, All Souls Cemetery, Pleasantville, NY to follow.
