Angela DiVitto

May 1, 1927 — December 21, 2020

Yonkers

It is with great sadness that we announce that Angela Di Vitto, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, gained her angel wings on December 21, 2020 and joined her heavenly family.  The love of her life, her husband of 57 years, Pasquale Di Vitto preceded her in death on May 23, 2014.

Angela Giancola was born on May 1, 1927 to Bartolomeo & Giuseppa (D’Altorio) Giancola in Roccaraso, Italy (AQ).  In keeping with traditions in her hometown of Roccaraso, the church bells rang in her honor on the day of her passing.

Angela was surrounded by her children at, the home of her daughter Marisa, who she resided with for the last year and a half.  She was a tough, determined, strong woman that did things her way up until the end.

She is survived by her loving children; Clotilde, Marisa and Sauro (Sal) Di Vitto and was blessed with 7 grandchildren; Teresa, Diana, Jason (Holly) Fitzsimmons; Anthony (Lauren Benjamin), Christopher and Nicholas Di Santo; Liana Di Vitto.

Adding to her blessings are 5 great grandsons that adore her; Isaiah, Elijah, Andrew, Gabriel and Spencer.  She lit up every time she saw them, most recently face timing with them.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews both in America and Italy.

In addition to her husband and parents, Angela was preceded in death by two sisters; Marietta and Tomasina and most recently by her brother Oreste.  Surviving are her brothers; Berardino, Francesco and Ovidio, as well as one sister Irene, all of Italy.

Upon her arrival to America in 1966 with her husband and children, she was employed at the Oak Dress Shop in Yonkers, NY; she became a member of The International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) and worked for the Horace Mann School in Riverdale, NY.

When she retired in 1990, Pasquale and Angela moved to Tobyhanna, PA and then in 2005 moved to Boca Raton, FL where she was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.  Due to her failing health, she moved back to Yonkers in 2019.  She loved the Florida sunshine, the warm weather and longed to go back.

She and Pasquale enjoyed cooking, baking, dancing, playing cards, bowling and tending to their flower garden.  Angela was happiest when her home was filled with family and friends, especially around her favorite time of year, Christmas.

Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec.27, 2020 from 3:00 PM-7:00 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Name of Jesus Church, Valhalla, N.Y. on Monday, 10 AM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers, N.Y.
