Andrew, who was also known to family and friends as Drew, was born in Queens, New York, on April 22, 1949 to Emma and Edward Kaferlein. He moved back to New York in 1978 and had a successful career installing telecomm systems for large institutions. In 2001, he received a commendation from the City of New York for his work to bring up the emergency response center in lower Manhattan immediately after the 9/11 attacks. He retired from his last position as IVR Operations Manager for NYC DoITT in 2014. Drew met Geri in 1987 and over the past 28 years they built a warm and caring life together. They have been devoted partners and loyal friends, who loved each other and their family and friends dearly.
