Andrew P. Adelhardt, of White Plains, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Sunday, December 3, 2023, surrounded by his loving children. He was currently residing at Ridgefield Station Assisted Living in Ridgefield, CT.
Andy was born on December 1st, 1928, in Staten Island, NY to Peter and Anna (Schmidt) Adelhardt. His siblings and parents later moved to St. Albans, Queens, NY. He attended St. John’s Catholic Preparatory High School and after graduation entered the US Marine Corp. After serving his country he went on to attend the University of Notre Dame. His four years earned him a degree in mechanical engineering as well as a life-long passion and commitment to the “Fighting Irish”. He proposed to the love of his life, Anne Marie Bronnekant, at the legendary “grotto” on campus. Their love for each other, along with their faith and commitment to God and church, built an everlasting foundation in which their family would grow.
After several years in the engineering field, Andy joined his father’s business of custom interior millwork. He then proceeded to grow George Frank Cabinetry into one of the premier millwork shops in NYC. His attention to detail, commitment to quality and hard work earned the company long term relationships with clientele such as Conde Nast, Ernst & Young and others.
At home, Andy and Anne raised their five children in Mt. Vernon, NY and spent 20+ summers at their home on Candlewood Lake. Andy was an avid boater who loved sailing, water skiing and swimming., especially with his children. In the winter he could be seen ice skating across the frozen lake, sledding or lacing up 5 sets of ski boots. There was never any “down time” in Andy’s life. He made sure of that!
Andy is survived by his children; Regina (Thomas) Lagarenne of Washington Township, NJ, Maryann Smith of Redding CT, Drew (Sara) Adelhardt of Stuart, FL, Janet (Michael Clarke) Saucci of Mt.
