Amalia DiFilippo of White Plains, NY, died Tuesday October 2, 2012. She was 77 years old. Amalia was born in Vasto, Italy, daughter of the late Vincenzo and Maria Giarrocco. The matriarch of her family, Amalia enjoyed cooking, gardening and most of all her family. She was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Church. She was considered a guardian angel to all who knew her. She left a lasting impression on all she came in contact with. She was selfless and provided unconditional love to all. Her two children, Tito DiFilippo and Nina (Silvio) Conte survive her as well as her cherished grandchildren Denise (Michael Taxin), Dana, Diana, Tommy, Dominick, and ToniAnne. Amalia is also survived by her sister-in-law Dora, nephews Nick and Enrico, and nieces and nephews in Italy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Mario in 1973, as well as her sister Adelina last year. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 6 at 10:30am at St. John the Evangelist Church in White Plains. Reposing Friday, October 5 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue at South Broadway, White Plains. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, White Plains. Memorial contributions in Amalia's name may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at PanCan.org.
