Alexander Anthony Altieri passed peacefully on July 16, 2023, at the age of 94, in Sleepy Hollow, New York.
He was born in Harlem, New York on December 23, 1928 and was the son of Jeanette and Silvio Altieri and brother to Laura Topping. He was very proud to have served his country as a member of the Army bands post World War II & the Korean War.
As a graduate of NYU, Alexander Altieri had an immense impact on students as a Band Director at Truman and Gompers High Schools where the band room is now named after him and the Mr. Holland's Opus Award was bestowed upon him.
As front person and professional trumpet player, he carved out a legacy as entertainer with his band, Al Altieri and The Taste of Brass, at the Concord Resort Hotel in the Catskill mountains .
Alexander is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine, and his children, Alex, Danielle, Christine and John; and his grandchildren of whom he was very proud: Autumn, Ettaraine and Hudson.
His life will be celebrated at The Church of the Magdalene, 525 Bedford Rd., Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591 at 11 AM.
Thank you to the staff at Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow for the care and comfort given to Alexander and his family during the last few days of his life. All that knew him will always remember the music and the love he brought to the world.
