Alan Stuart

Alan Lincoln Stuart, a beloved friend to many and a devoted family man, passed away at home surrounded by his family on August 1, 2024. While Alan was respected and sought after for his accomplishments and leadership in the investment world, he will be remembered most for his loving heart, boundless generosity, and mischievous humor. Alan loved to be playful and was always eager to share a laugh. He approached life with a joyous and adventurous spirit.

Alan loved traveling with his wife Jackie, their children, and friends. Sailing was Alan’s passion. He and Jackie enjoyed day sailing, cruising with family and friends, and recruiting friends and extended family to crew and race, including four Newport to Bermuda races.

Alan’s love of life extended to a love of culture. Majoring in Art History at Brown, he began collecting art during college and continued throughout his life. Alan and Jackie’s homes in Greenwich, CT and Brooksville, ME were vibrant with art, from ancient to contemporary, thanks to his discerning eye and decades-long collaboration with Jackie on a collection that included outstanding Chinese ceramics. With a passion for music, particularly opera, Alan was thrilled to appear as a supernumerary in Aida at the Metropolitan Opera.

Alan’s compassion and selflessness touched everyone who knew him, always helping friends and family during times of need. A proud alumnus of Brown University, he supported the university with his family, contributing to Brown’s athletics, funding a renovated theater, and establishing a scholarship fund. He also volunteered his expertise and creative thinking to multiple boards, including serving as chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee for the Town of Harrison, NY, as a board member and treasurer of the non-profit Careers through Culinary Arts Program (CCAP), and as a member of the Financial Advisory Board of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital in Blue Hill, ME.

Alan approached his work with the same passion he had for his other interests, working into his 80s when illness prevented him from continuing. As a young man, he was a founding partner of Stuart Brothers/New York Hanseatic, a corporate and government bond dealer and member of the NYSE, and he later founded several investment and investment advisory firms and mentored others in their careers.

Born in Manhattan on April 24, 1936, Alan spent his later decades in Greenwich, CT, and summered with family in Brooksville, ME. He was predeceased by his brother, James M. Stuart, and his parents, Elizabeth Lowenstein Stuart and Milton

M. Stuart. He graduated from the Ethical Culture Fieldston Schools and maintained lifelong friendships from that time.

A loving and cherished husband, Alan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Barkan Stuart; his children, Tori and her husband Rob Guiliano, Carolyn Stuart, and Elizabeth Stuart and her husband Skye Corbett; and his grandchildren, Isabelle and Madeleine Guiliano, and Maya and Calder Corbett. He was devoted to his brother’s children, James and his wife Sarah, and their children Liam, Nico, Charlie, and Lizzy; John and his wife Michele, and their children Ethan and Daisy; Mary, and Nina and her husband John Rudikoff, and their children Roman and Louisa. He will be missed by all who loved him.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 4 at 11 AM at Congregation Emanu-El of Westchester, 2125 Westchester Avenue East, Rye, New York.
