Adelaide Cignarella, known to her family and friends as Adele, was a Bronx native, born on January 15th, 1934. She was the daughter of Elizabeth (Forte) and Vincent Vetere, and the youngest of her two sisters, Margaret (Margie) and Marie.
Adele met her husband, Frank, at her sister Margie's wedding. The two married on October 16, 1955, celebrating in grand 'football wedding' style. They moved into the apartment above Grandma Grace on Hughes Ave., where many friendships on Arthur Ave. thrived. She and Frank had two sons, Vincent and Frank.
Adele was full of fun and flair. She had a tomboyish personality with a dressy touch; you could find her playing baseball with the boys, or dancing on roller-skates. She was a die-hard fan of her New York Yankees and Rangers. Adele had a love of summer stays at Harvey Cedars in Long Beach Island and pulling the slot machines at The Claridge in Atlantic City, all of which are cherished memories.
Adele was known for her warmth, charm, wit, colorful language, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a phenomenal Italian cook, always preparing feasts for her entire family on every Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Though the wooden spoon did have an alter ego, and some scars remain to this day.
She passed away on November 20th after a long battle with dementia. She is survived by her sons Vincent and Frank, her daughters-in-laws Andrea and Vicki, and her grandchildren Caitlyn (Jessie Cazares), Damian, Alex, Tori, and Eric.
Adele has now found eternal peace and will be forever in our hearts.
