Abraham M. Heinig

February 1, 1931 — June 9, 2021

Spring Valley

Abraham M. Heinig died peacefully in his sleep on June 9, 2021, in his adopted home, Plantation, Florida.  Born, February 1, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY to Louis and Leah Heinig, Abe was a New Yorker through and through. You would find Abe most days rooting for his favorite teams, the New York Giants and the New York Mets.  Abe supported his country in the US Army during the Korean War, returning home to graduate from Brooklyn College and take over the family business with his older brother Dave Heinig.

Moving to Rockland County with his family in 1966; Spring Valley, NY, became home for most of his adult life.  This is where Abe found his true passion and calling, co-founding and coaching for the Spring Valley Girls Softball League, later known as the Gloria Beresa Softball League.  Abe mentored and coached hundreds of girls for more than 20 years, winning numerous championships and the respect of all those he encountered.

In 1993, Abe and his wife Marlene moved to the State of Florida to enjoy retirement life.  He umpired girls’ softball games, played tennis, starred in plays, travelled with his wife and was Vice President of Lauderdale West.  Abe was as prominent in Florida as he was in NY.

Abraham is survived by his wife Marlene Rosh-Heinig, his four girls with his first wife Julie, Fern, Ilyse and Rachel, and his four stepchildren he considered his own Susan, Ira, Alan and Randi. Together Abe and Marlene had 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements for Abe are as follows:Graveside Service on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 9:45am at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla NY.
