Abraham M. Heinig died peacefully in his sleep on June 9, 2021, in his adopted home, Plantation, Florida. Born, February 1, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY to Louis and Leah Heinig, Abe was a New Yorker through and through. Moving to Rockland County with his family in 1966; Spring Valley, NY, became home for most of his adult life. This is where Abe found his true passion and calling, co-founding and coaching for the Spring Valley Girls Softball League, later known as the Gloria Beresa Softball League. Abe mentored and coached hundreds of girls for more than 20 years, winning numerous championships and the respect of all those he encountered.
In 1993, Abe and his wife Marlene moved to the State of Florida to enjoy retirement life. He umpired girls’ softball games, played tennis, starred in plays, travelled with his wife and was Vice President of Lauderdale West. Abe was as prominent in Florida as he was in NY.
