Zita was born on October 25, 1938 in the Bronx, New York to Jacob and Mollie Marks. After a year-long struggle with multiple health issues, Zita passed away on December 25, 2020. She is survived by her two daughters, Michele (Mark Neeves) and Donna (Peter Weishar), her grandson Nathan Weishar, her brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Myrna Marks, her nephews and nieces Eric and Barbara Marks, Andrew and Madeline Marks, Kathy Marks and David Fried, and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Zita was ahead of her time. She graduated from Christopher Columbus High School and Hunter College early and earned a master's degree while working full-time and raising 2 daughters. She taught at Port Chester High School and then Westchester Community College where she was Professor and Curriculum Chair. Zita was an avid tennis player. After retiring, Zita enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as playing bridge.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If you wish to make a donation in honor of Zita, the family asks that you give to the World Wildlife Fund, the ASPCA or your local animal shelter as Zita was a lifelong animal lover. Zita was also a cancer survivor and donations to Gilda's Club in White Plains are appreciated for all the support they gave her over the years.
