Teresa Jeanne Merritt 72, passed peacefully on March 16, 2023 at her residence surrounded by family after a valiant, lengthy battle on multiple fronts.
Terri was born July 27, 1950, to James "Jim" and Catherine "Kay" (Crehan) Murphy and grew up in Hawthorne, NY, with her seven brothers and sisters.
Terri married Buddy, the love of her life, on July 11, 1970, and was a loving, caring, adoring mother to Charles F. "Charlie" Merritt and Daniel J. "Danny" Merritt, who loved her beyond measure.
While raising the boys, Terri worked as an office manager for Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne for twenty years, and as an executive assistant in the legal office for the Town of Harrison. She was a talented artist who enjoyed photography, cruises, reading, time with her friends and family but most of all her beloved grandchildren, Cydney, Charlie Jr., and Lincoln.
Terri is predeceased by her husband Charles F. "Buddy" Merritt, parents James and Catherine Murphy, siblings Anne Schmitt, Mary Murphy, Daniel Murphy, James Murphy, and Peter Murphy. Terri is also predeceased by her mother-in-law Agnes "Sis" Downton, brothers-in-law George Schmitt and Robert Hochstein, sister-in-Law Cristina Murphy, nephew Eric Murphy, and nieces Nicole Murphy and Jeanne Schmitt.
Terri is survived by her two loving sons Charlie Merritt (Ila) and Danny Merritt (Jocelyn); sisters Regina Murphy, Patricia Murphy (Donald Thomas), Sandra Murphy-Hudis (Daniel), Patricia Murphy (James), and Pam Huber (Peter); brothers and sisters-in-law Rickard (Michelle) Downton and Katherine Merritt Smith (Brian); daughter-in-law Joanna McAdam; grandchildren Cydney, Charlie Jr. and Lincoln as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Terri was loved by all who knew her, and she will be so very sorely missed.
Visitation and a service will be held on March 31, 2023 at Hawthorne Funeral Home 4-8pm. Internment shall follow on Saturday April 1, 2023 at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla NY at 11:30am.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to the
Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF)
so we may eradicate this disease.
