Lorraine McGaffin Dolan, 81, of Somers, formerly of White Plains, died February 8th at the Hebrew Hospital Home in Valhalla after a long illness. She was the daughter of George W. and Elsie (Finigan) McGaffin of Elmsford. She graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford and studied at Parsons School of Design. She worked for AT&T in White Plains as an overseas telephone operator, a career she enjoyed immensely, and was also a fine interior decorator.
Lorraine will be remembered for her artful eye and vibrant sense of style, her humor and pizzazz, her love of animals, music, dancing, holidays and parties, and for her incomparable pot roast and noodles.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, George C. McGaffin of Colorado and Donald McGaffin of Seattle; as well as by her former husbands, Edwin Dolan of White Plains and Allan V. Becker of Rye. She is survived by her children, who attended the White Plains schools: Debbie and Jerry Nevins of Redding, Conn.; Michael and Tina Dolan of Mahopac; Janice Hilbrink of White Plains; and Barbara Hannigan of Rye Brook. Also her beloved grandchildren: Tyler and Jessica Nevins, Conor Nevins, all of Redding; Jamie Dolan and Harrison Dolan of Mahopac; Heather Hilbrink and Melissa Hilbrink of White Plains; Jennifer Hannigan of Los Angeles, Alex Hannigan and Michael Hannigan of Rye Brook; her great-grandchildren Kieran and Parker Nevins of Redding. She also leaves her sister Mickie Cloward of Somers, her cousin Lynn Kay of North Carolina, and dear friend Bob McElroy of Rhinebeck.
The family will receive visitors at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Ave., White Plains, on Tuesday, February 12 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a memorial celebration at 7 p.m., to which all are invited. Interment will be private, for family only, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla. For those who wish to make donations in Lorraine's memory, the family suggests a local animal shelter or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
