Dr. Sharon J. Kaufman, 49, died on Labor Day, after a year long courageous battle with colon cancer. Sharon was a 1984 graduate of New York Chiropractic College and has been a solo practitioner in Greenwich, Connecticut since shortly after graduating.
Sharon was devoted to her hundreds of patients and they in turn developed profound emotional commitment to her based on their gratitude to her for improving their health and well being.
Perhaps most significantly, Sharon had abiding ties to scores of friends going back to early childhood. Sharon had a genius for friendship and a devoted network of friends across the country.
Sharon was a tireless explorer from an early age and had the opportunity to travel much of the world, often on her own as a solo adventurer. She was looking forward to further travels and was always optimistic about possibilities.
Her stepchildren, Kevin Rooney of London, and Flynn Rooney of San Diego, were passionately devoted to her. She exposed them to hundreds of New York City events since they were young, and inspired (and shaped) them with her love and generosity of spirit.
In addition to her stepchildren Sharon leaves behind her husband, Dr. Jim Rooney, her sister, Lauren D. Kaufman of Massachusetts, her stepbrother Andrew Bauman of Atlanta, her stepsister Dena Bauman of Washington, D.C. and her stepmother Joan Kaufman of Atlanta. She is predeceased by her father Seymour Kaufman, her mother Jacqueline Kaufman and her brother Stephen Kaufman.
