Catherine Murphy

Catherine Murphy, died of natural causes at St. Patrick's Home, Bronx, NY, July 11, 2016, age 103 years, where she had lived for the past 13 years. Catherine, born in the Bronx to Mary Quirk and James Trier on May 25, 1913, graduated from Cathedral HS, June 1931. Her older sister, Josephine Babinetz, and her only brother, James Trier, predeceased her. Her younger sister, Mary Wyan, resides in Elmsford. Her first marriage to John O’Brien yielded two children, Mary Jo McTernan and John O’Brien. Catherine was employed at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Parkchester until her retirement in 1972. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo McTernan and son John O’Brien and their six children and ten grand children. Her second marriage was to Michael Francis Murphy, who with his three children, Patricia, Robert and Veronica and Catherine’s two, lived in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx. After all the children married, Catherine and Frank lived in Parkchester for 30 years. Catherine was a member of long standing with the St. Raymond’ s parish until she moved to St. Patrick’s home. Catherine’s two husbands, John O’Brien and Michael Frank Murphy predeceased her. All her stepchildren, Patricia Castiglia, Robert Murphy and Veronica Rubright also predeceased her. Eight step grandchildren and many step great grand children survive her. We are requesting that donations be made to the Recreation Department St. Patrick's Home, 66 Van Cortland Park South, Bronx, NY 10463. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 59 E. Main Street, Elmsford, NY.
