On Sunday, January 10, 2021, Carmelo Burgio, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 76. Carmelo was born on August 15, 1944, in Sicily, Italy. He came to the United States at the age of 12 and graduated from White Plains High School in 1964. He proudly became a United States citizen and served this country with honor in the United States Army. He worked for the Journal News for 44 years. On June 3, 1970, he married Giuseppina Calderone. They raised three children, Antonino “Tony,” Salvatore, and Vanessa. Carmelo loved the New York Yankees, playing bocce, fishing, and spending time with family and his six grandchildren Anthony, Juliana, Julia, Salvatore Jr., Adriana, and Frank Jr. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends may call Wednesday (today) at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains, from 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 14, 2021, at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in White Plains. Entombment will follow in the Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
