Angelo M. Lombardi, 98 years old, of Elmsford, New York, passed away on January 31, 2019. He was married to his wife of 54 years, Carmela Lombardi. (nee Gambetta) who predeceased him in 1998. He was born in San Marco in Lamis, Italy on January 23, 1921 as the eldest child of Antonio and Antonetta Lombardi. (nee Vincetorio). He was predeceased by his sisters Providenza (Provie) Weiss and Grazia (Grace) Cornelius. Angelo came to the United States in 1928 and lived in the Bronx, New York. In 1943, Angelo enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he did his service on the USS Salamonie which sailed in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. He was discharged in December 1945. Angelo became a teacher in New York City, Manhattan Vocational & Technical High School where he taught machine shop for 34 years. He moved to Elmsford, New York in 1971. Angelo was a GREAT father to his children, Lucille DiMeglio, (nee Lombardi) and son-in-law, Robert DiMeglio and Anthony Lombardi and his significant partner Judy Chernick and her daughter Stephanie Chernick Sallo and husband Ricccardo Sallo. His first granddaughter, Michele Boylan Chebetar predeceased him in May 2011. He was a loving grandfather to Lauren Lombardi McGann and Sean McGann, and Kathryn Lombardi, his great-granddaughters Gabriella Chebetar, Payge Chebetar, Allie Chebetar and his great-grandson, Matthew Dorpfeld Smith. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Angelo also leaves behind his brothers and sisters, Louis and Carol Lombardi, George and Toni Lombardi, Antonette and Silas Seandel, Olga Weiss, Theresa and Charles Magistro, as well as many fond nieces and nephews, last but not least his faithful and devoted Best Friend, Irma DiCioccio and his dedicated caretaker Hyacinth Baronette.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 4th from 2-5 and 6-9pm at Ballard Durand Funeral Home in Elmsford, NY.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 5th, 10am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Elmsford, NY.
Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
